Meet Our STEM Administrators
Tami Byron, STEM Instructional Supervisor (PK-12)
Ms. Byron’s current work includes:
- Developing and sustaining innovative STEM/STEAM Programming
- Creating a STEM culture that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Managing local and grant funding to procure emerging technologies and high-quality STEM curriculum
- Partnering with universities, informal education, and business/industry to enhance and extend STEM offerings
- Supporting school administrators and STEM lead teachers to ensure effective implementation of programs
Kevin Nelhuebel, STEM Instructional Specialist (Secondary 6-12)
Mr. Nelhuebel’s current work includes:
- Supporting middle school STEM Magnet, I-STEM Related Arts, and CyberSTEAM programs through curriculum development and teacher support
- Connecting local, national, and global STEM opportunities with high school STEM lead teachers through monthly STEM lead meetings and in-school support
- Providing new coach training, resources and opportunities for the expansion of competitive robotics in Newport News
- Creating technology-enhanced STEM, STEAM, and Computer Science curriculum for secondary instructional programs
- Developing, coordinating, and supporting Computer Science and Robotics secondary summer programs
Jennifer Barker, STEM Instructional Specialist (PK-5)
Ms. Barker’s current work includes:
- Partnering with administration, teachers, and community professionals to develop integrated curriculum enhancing STEM, STEAM, and computer science instruction in pre-k and elementary schools
- Supporting elementary STEM magnet schools and CyberSTEAM programs through professional development, curriculum support, and innovative programming
- Coaching of STEM lead teachers to provide professional development and implementation of innovative unique STEM programs in schools
- Developing, coordinating and supporting elementary cybersecurity pathway extended learning and summer programs
- Collaborating with district -level leadership in the development of the Division-Wide Literacy Committee
